Drivers demand safer vehicles. They want better protection from collision and better warning of their surroundings.

Toyota listened. They have announced a new active safety suite that will ensure safety for everyone at an affordable price.

Starting with the 2016 model year, the Toyota Safety Sense package will become available on select Toyota and Scion models. By 2017, Toyota hopes to include this package on most models sold in the U.S.A.

Toyota Safety Sense will be offered in two different packages. Compact cars and smaller will have a package that includes a Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert and an Automatic High Beam. Midsized cars, crossovers and larger vehicles will offer the package with the three features from the smaller cars, plus a Pre-Collision System with a pedestrian detection function, and Radar Cruise Control. Larger vehicles will gain a camera and a millimeter-wave radar for these enhanced features.

These are features normally found on luxury automobiles costing thousands of dollars. Toyota stated that the Toyota Safety Sense package will cost much less on the average – starting at $500. So far, the 2016 Toyota RAV4 and Scion iA will be among the first products to offer this package.

Though drivers are taught basic driving skills, there are a lot complications out on the road today. The best defense is to be better prepared.
